Camping is fun for the whole family. Cooking can even be a highlight of the trip instead of a dreaded chore.

Here are a few tips to make your campout meals fun and easy.

Foil Makes Camping Food Easy

Aluminum foil lets you prepare meals ahead of time. Then just put them on the coals and before long you have a great meal. Make sure to use heavy-duty foil then double the foil layers. A grownup should be the only one who places foil packs on the coals (and only a grownup should remove them). They get really hot. Hot coals are better than an open flame.

Here are some recipes:

Silver Turtles. Wrap seasoned hamburger formed into a patty, sliced potatoes, carrots and onions into a foil pouch. To cook, place the pouches in hot coals or over a medium grill for 45 minutes, turning once or twice during cooking.

“Chicken coop” Sausage. Place a pre-made sausage patty on a sheet of aluminum foil. Form a nest of frozen hash browns on top of the sausage. Crack an egg into the depression created by the nest. Wrap the foil into a pouch and set in host coals for 30 minutes.

Orange Cinnamon Biscuits. Take a large orange and slice it in half. Scoop out the halves of the orange, keeping the skin intact. You can use the orange to make orange juice. Place a pre-made cinnamon roll (the ones that come in a tube) into one of the orange halves. Replace the other half of the orange skin and wrap the whole thing in foil. Place the foil ball into hot coals for 10 minutes, turning once during cooking. The cinnamon roll will cook, picking up the flavor of the orange.

Pre-made Meals Make Life Easier

Consider cooking meals before you leave. Taco-seasoned meat can be brought along for a “make your own” taco meal. Casseroles can also be made ahead and frozen. Casseroles, like all frozen foods, can be used in the cooler to keep things cold and will thaw in time for meals.

Shake and pour pancake mixes can make things a lot easier too.

The key is to focus on fun, yummy foods that are quick to make and quicker to clean-up. That way you can have more time to spend focused on the fun part of the meals and the whole camping trip.

Complete instructions to make a cool duct tape wallet. This project will take you about 30 min. and all you need is dect tape. You can get any color you want and this wallet has places for money and school ID cards, debit cards or whatever you want.

This wallet works better than most duct tape plans because we show you how to give all the edges a “finished” seam so that the tape won’t stick to your pants and the edges of the wallet will not get frayed.

The edges of the wallet have a strip of tape over the seams that make it slide into and out of your pocket smoothly without getting sticky.

To make the wallet shell place two strips of duct tape on the table with the sticky side up. Then place piece of tape face down on the sticky sides where the two pieces of tape come together. (see the photo)

Repeat this until there are five strips of tape on the table with the sticky side facing up and four strips of tape with the sticky side face down as in the photo.

Fold the edges of the bottom strips of tape up and over the top strips of tape. When you are finished there should not be any tape adhesive exposed. You will have a sheet of duct tape that is smooth on both sides.

The top and bottom of the wallet will have folded edges. The folded edge will prevent fraying and keep the adhesive enclosed so it will not get sticky.

Cut the edges of the strip so that it is a little larger than a dollar bill and two credit cards as shown. These edges will be finished with tape later so don’t worry about if they are a little rough right now. Simply cut to the right size.

Make the Large Bill Pocket

Before adding the side strips find the center line by folding the wallet in half and making a strong crease.

Add side strips that go from the center line crease up past the edge of the top of the wallet. These strips are going to be on the INSIDE of the wallet.

Fold the two strips so the adhesive will face up and then fold the bottom half of the wallet to stick to the strips of tape.

Cut the strips that are sticking up about a half an inch above the top of the wallet then fold the edge down.

Make the First Card Pocket

Put a card on the wallet to measure the size then put a strip of tape on the top and bottom of the wallet that extends about one inch past the wallet edge.

Measure a piece of tape the hight of the wallet and fold it in half and stick it to the wallet. Next place the part that will be the inside of the card pocket with the adhesive side out.

Fold up bottom edges. Not in the photo how the credit cards can go in without touching any tape adhesive.

Trim the end so that it is even with the end of the wallet.

Add a piece of tape making sure that the end goes past the end of the wallet so it can be folded down to make a smooth edge.

Add strips of tape at the top that wraps inside the bill pocket. Add a strip at the bottom that folds under and onto the back side.

Put a strip along the inside edge to clean it up too.

Start a strip that begins just inside the bill slot that extends all the way down the outside edge of the wallet to give it a clean finished edge.

Add the Second Pocket

This second card pocket will hold a couple of cards that you use most. This pocket will give you quick and convenient access to these cards.

Place a piece of tape with the sticky side against the wallet and the table.

Get two or three cards (the max you plan to carry here) and place tape around them so the cards are wrapped in the NON-adhesive side of the tape.

Add this piece of tape onto the piece that was hanging town then fold both so they stick to the back side of the wallet.

Place a piece of tape that goes over to the back of the wallet and all the way into the other pocket to reduce the number of visible seams.

Place a strip of tape anywhere there is a rough seam that needs to be smoothed.

Angle the edge cut of the finishing strips of tape to give it a professional look.

Any edge that will get lots of wear and tear needs a strip of tape to finish it.

Done
