Satellite view of Crossing of the Red Sea

This just in…there was a satellite flying over the Red Sea when the Children of Israel crossed…well not really. This was done by some artist. But what I like about this picture is, even though this photo is just pretend, it does make you stop and think how powerful and great the real crossing of the Red Sea was.

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

Do the Lines Bulge in the Middle?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Optical Illusion

Here’s a simple question. Do the lines in this picture all go straight or do they curve around to make a bulge in the middle?

The lines in the picture are straight lines. Hard to believe isn’t it? But take a straight edge like a piece of paper and hold it up to your computer monitor and see.

It looks for sure like the lines bulge in the middle but they don’t.

It has something to do with the little squares inside the bigger squares and the way it is shaped. I don’t really know exactly why it looks like the lines curve. And like you probably did, the first time I saw it I thought they must really curve. Even after I put a straight edge up to my computer monitor I thought, “The lines must be curving a little.” But they are not curving at all.

Double and triple check your straight edge and you will see just like I did that the lines are all straight.

There is a way that seems right to a man,
but in the end it leads to death.

Sharks Have a Great Sense of Smell

Shark

God gave sharks a keen sense of smell. Some kinds of sharks can smell as little as one drop of blood if it was in 1,000,000 drops of seawater (that’s over 13.2 gallons about 50 liters).

A big kitchen trash can holds about 13 gallons or a little less than 50 liters. Imagine one drop in a whole kitchen trash can filled with seawater.

Sharks are also attracted to the chemicals found in the intestines of many species of fish. Some species, such as nurse sharks, have external barbels (a slender, whisker like feeling organ) near the mouth that greatly increase their ability to sense prey.

Sharks generally rely on their superior sense of smell to find prey, but at closer range they also sense movement in the water, and even use their senses to detect electrical fields created by prey.

God really made sharks cool. Here is a cool way to get just a small idea of just how sensitive a shark’s sense of smell is. Of course, our nose can not even get close to the sensitivity of a shark’s but this fun experiment will give you an idea.

Amazing Picture of a Star

Picture of Star on Curt Gunz websiteI’ve mentioned before that looking at the stars is one of my favorite ways to think about God; how great He is; how big He is; and if He can take care of the whole universe, then He can take care of me.

Well, I came across this photo. It is a Hubble Space Telescope image of the star V838 Monocerotis. NASA says “V838 Monocerotis is located about 20,000 light-years away from Earth in the direction of the constellation Monoceros, placing the star at the outer edge of our Milky Way galaxy.”

You can click on the picture on the right. But the image is HUGE and will take a while to load on your computer. You will probably have to use your computer’s scroll bars to see this cool picture of the star.

Whenever I see things like this I think of the Bible verse:

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.

There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard.

Psalm 19:1-3 (NIV)

Just wanted to share this with you.

Missile Sketch by Curt Gunz

Silly Scared MissleThis missile is scared to follow his exploding command.

When you play games do you get scared from just free online games like Missile Command? Probably not. We know that they are just fun video games.

But there are things in life that can be scary. You know what?…when things scare me there is only one thing that helps me get by….

It is my faith in God. He will never fail me. So I trust him, and I do get frightened a little sometimes but then I remind myself that God is in charge and is taking care of me. I

In fact he is greater than ANYTHING in the world.
