Chocolate Dipped Pretzel SticksHere is a fun, easy and tasty snack recipe that you will love. You will need your parents to help you.

You Will Need

  • One bag of pretzel sticks
  • 12-ounce bag semisweet or white chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Cookie sheet lined with waxed paper
  • Spoon, flat spatula, and table knife

Here Is What You Need to Do

1. Put chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave on high for 1 minute, 30 seconds. Stir with spoon. If the chips are not melted, heat for 30 more seconds and stir again.

2. Dip the spatula into the melted chocolate. Roll the pretzel stick in the chocolate on the spatula so it is half-covered. (Melted white chocolate can be a little lumpy, so you may need to smooth it over the pretzel with the knife.)

3. Lay each chocolate-dipped pretzel on the cookie sheet. Let the dipped pretzels sit for 30 minutes before serving. Do not refrigerate.

Beach Bowling

There is more you can do with sand than build castles! Play this awesome beach bowling game with your family, or maybe you can think of another creative way to play in the sand.

You Will Need

  • A ball
  • A bucket or cup

Here Is How

1. Fill the bucket with moist sand, pat it down, and turn it over to make your first bowling pin.

2. Continue to fill the bucket with sand to create a total of ten bowling pins and set them up in a bowling triangle by following step three.

3. To create a bowling triangle, place one pin in first row, two pins in the second row, three in the third row, and four in the last row.

5. Take five or six steps from pins and draw a line in the sand.

6. Stand behind the line and roll the ball toward the pins to knock them over.

7. Each player gets to roll the ball twice, like real bowling.

8. The next player will have to create his or her bowling pins by repeating steps one through three.

9. Each player should keep track of the number of pins knocked down for each turn.

10. At the end of the game, winner gets to kick over remaining sand pins while screaming, “I am the beach bowling master!”

Fun In the Car

Line of Brightly Colored CarsRiding in the car can be really boring.

Here is a fun game called “Yellow Car”

One person is “it” and selects the color of a car and everyone else tries to be the first to spot that color.

The game always starts with a yellow car and that is why it is called “Yellow Car.”

The person who is “it” says, “Yellow car, go!” When he or she says go the first person to see a car of that color says, “Yellow car! Right there beside us” (or where ever the car is).

After seeing the car, the first person to say it wins. They then become the new “it” person and can call the color of the next car to be search for. Only the first round must be a yellow car. After that round any color can be chosen.

Every time a new round is started the “it” player says the color of a car and then says “Go!”

Extra suggestions:

The person who is it cannot call out the color of a car they already see.

Players must decide in advance if the “it” player is allowed to search for the car.

Don’t pick hard to find car colors.

Some cars are very close to two colors, for example a greenish-blue car can look green or blue. The person who is “it” decides if the car is a match to the color he or she called out.

Since the game is just a fun way to pass time on a long drive, don’t make it too competitive. Just have fun.

Stills from Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins

Rated G by the MPAA.

Walt Disney (1964)

Jane and Michael Banks are two bored (and a little spoiled) upper crust English kids.

They have their whole world turned upside down by a nonsensical nanny who teaches them (and their whole family) how to have fun.

This movie is a musical and has both comedy and sad parts and lots of imaginative scenes that are wonderful for adults and children alike.

Julie Andrews won a Best Actress Oscar award for her role as Mary Poppins.

The movie combines a good story, songs, and scenes of live action blended with the animation.

You’ll be singing along in no time…”in the most delightful way!”

Mary Poppins is also a series of children’s books written by P.L. Travers and and originally illustrated by Mary Shepard.

The books (like the movie) center on the mysterious and magical Mary Poppins; in a way her name describes what she does, ‘Merry Pop-ins’. She is merry (happy) and is blown by the East wind to Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane in London and into the Banks household to care for their children.

There was a 40th anniversary DVD release of the film in 2004.
