Satellite view of Crossing of the Red Sea

This just in…there was a satellite flying over the Red Sea when the Children of Israel crossed…well not really. This was done by some artist. But what I like about this picture is, even though this photo is just pretend, it does make you stop and think how powerful and great the real crossing of the Red Sea was.

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

Creation and Our Awesome God

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

CreationLooking at the stars help us to remember how huge and powerful God is. One of the best ways to start your prayers is just to spend some time praising God for how awesome he is.

Awesome is a word that is overused these days. Getting a new game or a trip to the movies makes us say it is “awesome” but the word really means something that fills us with awe.

Have you ever looked at something that was sooooo cool you just didn’t have words to describe it. Maybe a mountain when you were camping, or a starry night when you were out in the country away from city light, or a waterfall, or your trip to the Grand Canyon or…well, you get the idea.

The kind of thing that makes your jaw drop and you just say, “awe………”

That is what awesome really means.

So when you start your prayers spend some time just thanking God for his awesome-ness and praising Him because He is awesome.

I like to look at pictures like this one to remind me that God created a great big universe. He is awesome.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

Kitten and Bird

Here are seven cute pictures of a kitten and a bird who have become friends. They don’t know that everyone expects them to be enemies so they are just being friends.

I bet you have some good friends. Will you do me a favor? Will you tell them about ChurchFun.com so that they can enjoy it to. Tell your friends at church, in your neighborhood, your brothers and sisters, cousins aunts and uncles.

Your Sunday School teacher may want to know about ChurchFun.com because there are free downloads that they can use in class.
Anyway. Enjoy these pictures.

Amazing Picture of a Star

Picture of Star on Curt Gunz websiteI’ve mentioned before that looking at the stars is one of my favorite ways to think about God; how great He is; how big He is; and if He can take care of the whole universe, then He can take care of me.

Well, I came across this photo. It is a Hubble Space Telescope image of the star V838 Monocerotis. NASA says “V838 Monocerotis is located about 20,000 light-years away from Earth in the direction of the constellation Monoceros, placing the star at the outer edge of our Milky Way galaxy.”

You can click on the picture on the right. But the image is HUGE and will take a while to load on your computer. You will probably have to use your computer’s scroll bars to see this cool picture of the star.

Whenever I see things like this I think of the Bible verse:

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.

There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard.

Psalm 19:1-3 (NIV)

Just wanted to share this with you.

Cute Duck Picture

This cute duck reminds me how silly it would be for a duck to worry. This duck is going to be able to swim just fine. God cares for it and takes care of it.

Just think how funny the duckling looks as it is learning to swim. It does not need a swim ring. It can swim free and easy because that is how God made it.

But, did you know that people can be just as funny, goofy and silly? We worry about things that God has promised to take care of. When we worry about something God has already promised to take care of it is as silly as a duck being afraid of the water.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
